NYC Sister's Trip

My sisters are my everything... any one who knows me knows this.
They are both chasing dreams and making lives for themselves farther away from Missouri than I would prefer, but it makes me proud of them on so many levels and makes my time with them sweeter than I could ever describe.

Our birthday's fall about a week apart. Which I'm sure took a toll on my mother as we were growing up, but has always been so fun for us to celebrate for a full 7 days! The Best! They usually make a trip to Missouri during this time but this year we decided to switch it up a bit and go to LuLu in NYC. And man, am I glad we did.

Lucy took over as NYC tour guide extraordinaire and showed us the best time. This was our first time in the city just the three of us and we took full advantage of an all girl (no child) weekend.

Aggie and I arrived around 5 o'clock on Thursday evening. Hopped in a cab to Lucy's apartment and hit the ground running - headed to Peels for dinner. This was one of my favorite meals of the weekend. Good Southern food with a bit of a NYC twist. After dinner we sipped a few cocktails at the Bowrey Hotel next door before calling it a night.

Friday:

We awoke to snow... lots of it!
So so beautiful but so so slick! We made the trek, it was ugly, to a near by breakfast joint.
Delish!

Then, we loaded up in Lucy's car and made the trip to Brooklyn. *First off, I have to say I was overly impressed with my sister's NYC driving skills.
We made our way to IKEA. My first time and man was it an experience. Since it was snowing outside we took full advantage of our time there and wandered around aimlessly for a few hours. So Fun.

We drove through Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo before heading back over the bridge.
We lunched in the West Village at "Schillers"

And then headed uptown for some major retail.
ABC Carpet and Home was all I had hoped it would be and more...
Lots of pics to prove it.

And Fish's Edys was over the top fun!

We had dinner outside Chelsea Market

And finished off a great day at 16 Handles,
LuLu's favorite yogurt spot!

 Saturday:
We brunched at Cluny's - highly recommend!

And then made the trek to the Upper East Side to visit my uncle Dick's girlfriend, Dorsey. This was such a great weekend to be in town since she was hosting a HUGE art show at the Armory. She was kind enough to leave us three tickets and we thoroughly enjoyed browsing the art. Her gallery's showing was our favorite, full of color and texture. We continued up to Dorsey's gallery which has recently moved, to see the progress and chat with her for a bit.

We made our way through the park at dusk, so beautiful

Stopped off at the Plaza hotel to warm our toes and sip a glass of wine. The people watching was my favorite. Guests coming back to clean up for dinner with shopping bags galore. Women in some of the loveliest ball gowns headed through the lobby for a night out. Such an experience.

That night we ate at Park in Chelsea.
We have been here before, I love the atmosphere and the food is always delicious.

After dinner we had 10:30 reservations for dessert and drinks at the Standard Hotel a few blocks away.
A few of Lucy's friends joined us and we had a wonderful time catching up and sipping some delicious cocktails.

After dessert, we took an elevator up several floors to Le Bain, the club on top of the Standard Hotel. Not gonna lie, gave me a bit of a panic attack. Been a while since I darkened the door of a "club." The lights, fog, intoxicated dancers - I remembered why. But the view was like nothing you have ever seen before. Absolutely incredible. But this Midwest Mom was happy to jump right back on that elevator and head back to a cab.

Sunday:
We spent the morning in SOHO.
Probably my favorite area of NYC. The sun was shining and the temps were perfect for a long walk, while carrying a "hot and crusty" bagel and chai tea. We spent the morning exploring the shops and met with Lucy's main squeeze Brian for lunch.

Like all good things, our weekend had come to an end.
Bittersweet, but happy to be headed home to Charlie... who by the looks of the following pic - enjoyed his NYC souvenir.
