Here's the story...

So some of you know and some of you don't know just how Mr. Charlie decided to make his debut. Here is a quick run down of the events that took place last Thursday night, the 22nd of October.

My sister Aggie was driving in from Savannah, Georgia. When she arrived at our house at two thirty in the morning she came in to give me a kiss and let me know she was there and safe. At that point I decided since I was up I might as well get out of bed and use the restroom.. why not.. at this point I was going 12 or so times a night, I do not miss that! When I stepped into the bathroom I felt a strange sensation, and well... basically my water broke.

I tried to stay as calm as possible, walked back into the bedroom and told Josh.. who was calm at first. Aggie overheard from the guest room and came shooting in our bedroom as well. Gus knew something was up and didn't want to miss a beat, following us around every step of the way. My bags were packed so we loaded the car and headed on our merry little way. I was silent the whole drive there, just overwhelmed with everything that was happening and about to happen I think.

So they checked us into triage and started monitoring me from there. I was dilated to a two and my doctor was on call for the night. She came in and said hello and confirmed that my water had broke and I was in fact in labor. She said they would monitor me and start the pitocin at seven in the morning if I still was moving along slowly.

I was transfered into my labor and delivery room at that point, Aggie and Josh unloaded the car and we sent Aggie back home to be with Gus. It was about five a.m. at this point and the nurse said Josh and I should get some rest. We napped a little I guess until seven and then they started my IV.

Pretty soon after they put in my epidural.. which was not near as bad as I would have imagined. And I was still progressing at a steady but slow rate. Unfortunately, my epidural only took on my left side, I could still feel the contractions on my right side. My anestethiolgist had just gone into a c-section and was going to be an hour so I opted for some pain medication. This was a long hour, Aggie and Josh fanned me when I woke up sweating and the pain meds really threw me for a loop. Once she switched the medicine in my epidural I felt no more pain and was ready to go. My parents arrived just in time to come in an wish me luck.

At that point I was dilated to a four.. and hour passed and then a 10. Dr. LeMon was still around and anxious for me to start pushing. At about 12:45 I said goodbye to Aggie, my mom and dad and the nurse locked the door.

I loved my labor and delivery nurse and Josh of course did a wonderful job keeping me motivated. About 20 minutes later we had a son! I couldn't believe it. I was very fortunate to have such an easy labor! I looked at Josh and told him we could have more than one.. I could do this again!

We were introduced to sweet Charlie and my family was able to come back in and meet him as well! What a blessing! I can't believe he is here, we can't wait for each and every one of you to meet our newest addition!
